Brief history
The Association came into being on the 9th September 1985 when a constitution was adopted at a meeting of the interested members at the STC factory in Crowhurst Road and it was decided to seek charitable status with the objects of establishing and running a community centre.

At that time, the factory in Crowhurst Road was closing and a bid was put in for the lease of the building which contained excellent social facilities. However, Asda were also negotiating for the lease through the Wyncote Development Co and the outcome was that the Council agreed that Asda would build a community centre in Hollingbury. Planning gains was a term used at that time to describe a scheme whereby large companies offered benefits in kind to local communities.
The Centre is owned by the Council and is run by the Association by agreement with the Council.
